Animal Friends Blog
The 100k Charity Giveaway is over for another year and with over 36,000 votes we had our winner. Over the last two months, six charities became three, as chosen by our Facebook followers, readers of the Healthy Pet Guide, and veterinary professionals. Votes were cast by people all around the world, all coming together to help their favourite charity hopefully win the £100,000.
There could only be one winner, and before announcing it to the world we got in the Animal Friends van, hit the road, and visited all three of the final charities in one day.
Big cheques were written, cakes had been made, and off we went to the capital to see the first two charities.
Four Paws was the first charity we visited, trying to hide the cheque and keep the cakes intact, we were welcomed by some of the charity’s fantastic staff.
When asked what they would do with the money if they did win, Martin Dale, Head of Fundraising told us they “work with a lot of wild animals around the world, either kept in circuses or private ownership and rescue those animals globally. It tends to be lions, big cats, bears, stuff like that. So, following one of those rescues from start to finish, from rescue to sanctuary, would be a good idea.”
We were delighted to let them know that they were the winners and were receiving the £100,000 donation.
The other charities
We didn’t want the other charities to miss out on some funding for their terrific work, so while popping into their offices we announced that we would like to give them a donation of £15,000 each.
It was a fantastic opportunity for us to meet some of the people working hard behind the scenes to make sure the charity’s work continues. They got to enjoy some cake, too, and after a 6-hour round trip in the van, we were quite surprised they’d survived the journey.
Chris Butler-Stroud, CEO from Whale and Dolphin Conservation, told us that the “incredibly generous donation will go towards keeping whales and dolphins safe and free.”
Dr Joe Nunez-Mino, Director of Communications & Fundraising at the Bat Conservation Trust said that “the unexpected donation from Animal Friends is a welcome contribution towards achieving our vision of a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together.”
A big thank you to everyone
We wouldn’t be able to help charities like these without our customers, so a massive thank you to those who took the time to vote. We don’t want this to be our last 100k Charity Giveaway, so keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook and Twitter pages to be the first to see any updates.
